    Outstanding Radio for GMRS

Posted by Dave on 17th Jul 2023

Ordered 2 of these MCS2000s for a base and a mobile install. Units arrived complete, cleaned, and buffed to a shine. Not a joke. These things appear to be fully detailed before packaging. Final wipe down done with All Purpose Spray for that added shine, by the looks of it. Very well done. Functionality wise these units work as they should. Full Tx power into a well matched (1.1 SWR) antenna on the meter. Rx audio is some of the best around. MCS2000s have a rep for this. It's just easy to hear the voice, even if they are a weak signal with some static. In re: the Tx power and FCC GMRS regs: The idea is to run a 100W radio at 50% power to lengthen it's service life. MSC2000s aren't the most efficient in low power mode, still drawing a good amount of amps on the 12V line, but the radio runs nice and cool. Low power on these units has measured at about 52W. Programming is a challenge to get up and working, but once you have a machine and cable that allows you to program, it's quick and easy. You need to have a little IT experience for this since you basically need an older laptop/desktop with Win7 Ultimate 32 bit and Virtual XP mode (32 bit). This was the only way I could get the USB programming cable to work and it's a quality cable from bluemax49ers. If any of this seems daunting, have these guys do it for you. Very please overall and will most definitely be doing business here again!

    MCS2000

Purchased this radio to use for a P25 gateway project. The radio as delivered was very clean and looked new. It came with the base unit, remote control panel, mic and remote speaker. It has worked as expected; I'll certainly consider Used Radios.com for future purchases.
